University of South Florida invests $20 million to promote academic progress for student success

The University of South Florida, a national leader in student success, will make an unprecedented investment of $20 million to help students who are experiencing financial hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic remain on a path to timely graduation. The university has begun awarding the We Got U-SF Scholarship and Waiver to nearly 22,000 eligible undergraduate and graduate students to encourage full-time enrollment in the fall semester.

USF medical students create new ways to reach patients

When COVID-19 restrictions kept USF medical students from all direct contact with patients, many refused to stay away completely. Instead, they used online tools to build new services and resources to reaffirm their commitment to the field. From making calls to check on patients, to creating multilingual resource guides for underserved communities, to creating online cooking clubs or even assisting health care workers with their own personal duties, students found ways to do what they most love – to help others.

USF COVID-19 rapid response research effort funds second round of pandemic projects

USF World launches support fund to aid international students affected by COVID-19

USF has recognized that international students face unique challenges as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. International students are not eligible for financial assistance that U.S. students receive from the federal CARES Act. In order to support these students and help them fulfill their dreams of completing their degree at USF, the USF World International Student Support Fund was created.

USF engineers create ‘ear savers,’ providing relief to health professionals treating coronavirus patients

Medical professionals are required to wear face masks, often continuously during 14-hour shifts. The elastic bands can be painful, and cause sores and headaches. In order to improve their comfort, engineers at the USF College of Engineering have manufactured a special plastic strip that’s lined with hooks, making the straps adjustable.
